Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers -
SNAME is an internationally recognized professional organization.
A US based society it is comprised of individual members. Its goal is to
advance the art, science and practice of Naval Architecture,
Shipbuilding, and Marine Engineering. The books and technical journals
it publishes are a basis for much of today's common design practice. A
majority of SNAME's focus is on large ships, but they are also
responsible for a vast amount of published work on smaller commercial
vessels and yachts.

Society of Boat and Yacht Designers - This is an organization of
designers, engineers, boatbuilders, surveyors and others interested in
the design and construction of small craft. SBYD is a much smaller
group, but has a much clearer focus on the small craft marine industry.
It provides a valuable forum for the exchange of ideas among its
members.

American Boat and Yacht Council - ABYC is a membership
organization which over the last 50 years has been responsible for
developing and maintaining safety standards for small craft. It's
roster includes designers and builders of all types of small craft.
It's recommendations are published in Standards and Recommended
Practices for Small Craft. It is the hands on bible of good
installation and design practice for our industry. It is also now the
parent organzation for Westlawn School of Yacht Design.
