Like so many journeys the hardest part of creating the boat of your dreams is often taking the first step. It's understandable. There are many seemingly conflicting options and decisions. It's easy to get brain-freeze at the starting gate. More people do than don't, I fear, and are therefore left wondering "What If?" Only folders are left behind filled with clippings, sketches, and loosely organized thoughts.
I've often though it would be cool if someone could develop a computer program that would allow you to easily pull together those ideas and visualize the boat of your dreams. Think of the service available at the big box home improvement stores. Design a kitchen or bath in a half-hour complete with 3d's illustrations. Unfortunately I'm not a computer programmer: I don't even play one on TV. So, such software is not likely to come from me. What I have done, however, is to begin offering a new service on our website where we take your ideas and sketches and turn them into a coherent profile and or arrangement plan for a modest fixed price. These are not full preliminary designs and are limited to boats under 60-foot. They can, however, help you to determine whether your ideas are practical or what it would take to make them so.
Can all the items in your laundry list fit into a boat of the size you want? If so you can have a professional drawing to begin talking with builders. If not, you will have a better understanding of why: information that can help you to refine or reshape your vision. Of course we can also then take the development to higher levels if you choose. I invite you to visit the "Dream Boats" link at Nevilleboats.com. Dreams, after all, are more likely realized if a touch of reality stirred into the mix.
But then that’s just my opinion…
