Among the most satisfying parts of my job are the folks I get to meet and with whom I get to work. The client who commissioned this boat has become a great friend for over a decade though I get to talk with him less than I'd like. He happily lives and works half a world away.
The experience he brought to the project was extensive having crewed, captained, and overseen construction on dozens of projects for clients worldwide on projects well over 100 foot. We worked with him on two major projects and helped him
peripherally on a third: a trimaran that he uses to bring everyday goods, medicines and other necessities to the remote islands within a thousand miles of Guam.

Most boats are driven by how much will fit.This boat was not. The Jolly Man 57 that our client envisioned is unabashedly a 2-person boat with an watchful eye toward efficiency and economy. The JM57 a was actually developed half a decade before our current energy became manifest. Still it makes total sense.; The client was and is living in a remote part of the world where resources are precious even if they are readily available at remote distant locations.
The goal was high efficiency for two people, a cruising couple or a captain and small crew. Even so this boat has a
lot to offer. The longer length than otherwise might be expected allows a very comfortable interior layout with room to tailor the plans to suit your own needs. The challenge is to think in linear terms since convenient passageways can quickly eat away
precious interior space.
Jolly Man was designed for full aluminum construction. That choice offers a lot of advantages. The lightweight and strength available are huge assets, especially when you couple those advantages with the reasonable construction costs that metal boat construction brings to the party.
The client for Jolly Man's continues to work with some of the best Mega yacht designers and builders in the US, Europe and Asia. His clients are people who accept no compromise. Jolly Man was and is a boat that though much more reserved in its presentation, still stands well on it's own merits. Enough flowery talk. JM is simply a really nice boat.
